Removing Paint Carpet Stains

  • Oil Paint Carpet Stains
    • Use a needle or pin to break up wet stains without damaging carpet fibers.
    • Use a steamer to soften dry paint and then do the above step.
  • Latex Paint Carpet Stains
    • Blot to remove as much wet paint as possible. DO NOT use a scrubbing motion.
    • Create a cleaning solution of one cup of lukewarm water and one teaspoon of mild dishwashing detergent and use a clean rag or paper towel to blot the solution onto the stain, from the outside in.
    • Vacuum after the area is dry.
  • Water Paint Carpet Stains
    • Blot wet paint with a damp paper towel. DO NOT use a scrubbing motion.
    • Use a solution of one cup of hot water and a tablespoon of mild dish detergent on dry paint, letting it soften for a few minutes after application. Then use a pin or knife to shave off the paint, adding more solution during the process. If the paint won’t soften, use a handheld steamer while you use the knife or pin.
  • Wax Carpet Stains
  • Use a butter knife to remove loose wax and vacuum it.
  • Use a damp cotton towel folded in half to place on the stain, then iron it high setting on the towel for 10 seconds and remove until the wax is gone. If the towel dries during the process, dampen it. Spray carpet cleaner on the stain and move a spoon in a down motion to scrub into the carpet, which then should air dry.

Blood Carpet Stains

  • Use a soft brush to scrape off dry blood
  • Use a solution of a tablespoon of scent free liquid hand dishwashing detergent and two cups of cold water.
  • Dampen a clean white cloth with the solution and blot until all blood is absorbed
  • Dampen a sponge with cold water and press into the spot
  • Blot dry with a clean towel
  • If the stain stays and won’t leave, use a solution of a tablespoon of ammonia and half a cup of warm water to blot the stain with a sponge until it leaves. Then use a clean sponge with only cold water, and blot dry after.

Soda Carpet Stains

  • Use a clean towel to blot as much soda up as possible. Use a solution of two cups of warm water, a tablespoon of unscented liquid dishwashing detergent for hands, and a tablespoon fo white vinegar to apply to the stain with a clean white cloth, blotting slowly with a little solution at a time until the stain is removed. Then blot with a sponge with cold water, and blot dry.

Urine Carpet Stains

  • Blot wet urine up with a clean paper towel
  • Then use a solution of ¼ a teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and a cup of warm water. Make sure the detergent doesn’t have any bleach or lanolin in it. Spray the solution on the stain and use a clean towel to blot it up. Then rinse the spot with warm water, and re-do the above steps if a stain is still there.
  • If the stain remains, use a solution of 2 tablespoons of ammonia and a cup of water to blot, rinse, and repeat.
