Top Causes of Worn Carpets

In this blog entry, the New Jersey carpet cleaning and New Jersey upholstery cleaning experts here at Carpetline will detail the top causes of worn out carpets and rugs.

Foot Traffic

Foot traffic can wear out carpets rapidly. This is usually worse when people walk often over particularly high traffic areas. It won’t be seen as badly under bed or furniture. It is the worst near doors and main hallways. These areas usually have debris, dirt, or soil. Dirt or soil is moved every time everyone walls in this area, causing it to hurt carpet fiers. Keep the area clean by regularly vacuuming. Try not to wear outside shoes on carpets, and periodically rearrange furniture to change heavy traffic areas.

Pets

Pets with dirty feet can rapidly wear carpets. Urine is obviously one of the worst dangers. Make sure to clean up any pet stain as quickly as possible. Pets can sometimes embed fur inside carpets, causing carpets to look dirty. Regular vacuuming is the best way to remove animal hair. Cats can also seriously damage carpets when they sharpen their nails on them. If you have a  cat, purchase a scratching post.

Sains

Any sort of stains like food, coffee, wine, and as mentioned before, pet stains, can damage carpets, especially if they are left in place for a while. Household cleaning supplies and rapid cleaning can lower how severe a stain will be. However, professional carpet cleaning is the best bet, especially for tough stains, older stains, or highly visible stains. Professional carpet cleaning penetrates deeper into the stain, breaking it up and leaving a carpet fully stain and odor free.

Furniture

Heavy furniture can cause carpet issues, especially when it is improperly moved. We recommend lifting the entire piece of furniture off the carpet before you move it. If furniture is dragged on the floor, it could snag the carpet causing tears, especially in areas where two pieces of carpet meet. If this happens, carpets will regularly become loose.
